Cultural Giants

As we focus on expanding our kids horizons, we also want to expose them to some fabulous culture along the way. After dinner in Dover, we were winding through the streets back to our B&B. You can really see the evidence of the rich history in Dover. The market square has had a market held on that spot for 1000 years. But enough of that, on to the culture. Vivian took a wrong turn and actually ran into a theater on a side street. She stuck her head in and asked if there was a show that night. The lady said yes, but there would have to be at least 4 people for them to go. Lucky for us, we travel in a Skelton 5 pack. In we head.

OK, the show was actually Monsters vs Aliens. Not exactly a London theatre but when you are tired, this is the bomb. The theater was about the size of my Sequoia and the snack window was open right into the room so you could walk up and get an espresso during the show. The movie was excellent and the night was great. Actually, when we were playing the high/low game on the ride home (this is out little routine where you have to tell your high spot and your low spot for the day), the movie won the high spot for all three kids. Mom and dad were close to falling asleep which is OK as well but that is another story.

One last site for the weekend. On the northern coast of Kent, there is a site known as the Roman Reculver. The Romans first built a fort there around 180 AD and the purpose was to protect Britannia from pirates. There was later a church built on the site and the ruins are of the church. It is now a beautiful park that looks out over the bay. The sun was setting and there were millions on huge boulders along the coast. The kids wanted to stay and climb on the rocks so that is how we spent our sundown before taking in a good pub meal.
